Weekend at the Ranch

Some friends of ours own an incredible Ranch in Brenham, Texas and they let us use it from time to time.  This past weekend, Audra and I brought a couple of my staff guys (Deets Finley-High School Pastor and Ryan Mullins-JHigh Pastor) and their wives to enjoy a weekend of RE:freshment and RE:laxation... or as much relaxation as you can have with my 2 kids in the same house!
We swam in the pool, rode the Ranger (ATV) and enjoyed petting the animals and climbing the trees.

Audra makes fun of me when I get on a ranch like this; she calls me a 'giddy little school girl' because I enjoy it so much!  So... I get excited... sue me.  We spent a lot of time outdoors, and for much of that time we were in the fields with the animals.  Have you ever tried to explain to a 3 year old why the cows keep giving each other piggy back rides?  We had a lot of good laughs and good food... the weekend was over way too quickly!

When I'm at a place like this, it always reminds me that God's design wasn't for us to always GO-GO-GO, but that He wants us to pace ourselves and enjoy the life that He's called us to live.  It's an amazing thing to sit around a camp fire with an untwisted clothes hanger and a couple marshmallows on the end of it.  It is truly something when you can escape the reality of a typically hectic schedule and get to the point where you're biggest concern is whether or not you're going to burn the marshmallow or if you're going to cook it perfectly on all sides.  God says in Psalm 46:10, "Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations,I will be exalted in the earth!"  From time to time, I can get to a point where I forget that there are stars in the sky, but getting away like this causes you to look up and marvel at the majesty of God.
